1st Annual "Autism Speaks" Splash Day

In March of this year, several staff members from the Houston Swim Club attended a "Swimming with Autism" conference held in San Diego, California. The staff members brought back with them several ideas to promote "Swimming with Autism" at Houston Swim Club. The "1st Annual 'Autism Speaks' Splash Day" was one big event organized to raise funds and increase awareness for swimmers with autism.

On Saturday, April 14, all four HSC locations simultaneously hosted the Splash Day fun event with several activities for families. The dunking booth was a favorite at all locations! In Sugar Land, the bounce house attracted a lot of kids! In Sharpstown, families enjoyed the outdoor pool. In Katy and Pearland as well as the other locations, families enjoyed popcorn and snow cones.

According to Tammy Schoen, HSC director at Sugarland, "Apparently, swimmers will donate a lot to dunk their teachers and teachers will pay to dunk their bosses! We are so grateful to all who came by and for all of the generous donations to Swimmers With Autism. Look for more events like this one in the future!"

Schoen said that the money raised will provide scholarships for lessons for swimmers with autism.
