After a 2-year hiatus, Houston Swim Club held our 3rd Annual Howey Invitational swim meet! Last weekend on April 30 (Saturday), all 7 of our locations around the Houston area gathered at the HSC Sharpstown outdoor pool to compete in a fun, high-energy swim meet for our Kingfish and above level students.
Dozens of volunteers from our staff greeted nearly a hundred swimmers as they came through the Sharpstown gates into the 25-yard outdoor pool. The weather was perfect, the water was crystal clear, and the swimmers were pumped full of excitement.
Swimmers camped out in the shade, swapping stories, chatting with friends and making new ones as they waited to hit the water.
The Howey Invitational was greatly missed over the last couple of years, and our swimmers and staff could not have been more thrilled to be back together again. Howey was on hand for the event, mingling with the swimmers and offering high fives and encouragement as they launched off the starting wall.
There were a total of 17 events, including all of the strokes your children have been learning at HSC, single events and relays. Grouped by level, they were able to really show off their skills to the parents lined up along the pool deck (in the shade of course!) watching the event, cheering for their swimmers.
Many of the participants in the Howey Invitational had never been in a competitive swimming event before. What a way to introduce them to such a fun sport! Speaking of which, if your student just couldn’t get enough, the Sharpstown Stingray summer swim team is starting up this week and registration is still open! Whether our students stick to learning skills in class, or go on to be competitive swimmers, we’re so proud to be able to provide a safe, fun environment to build a life-long love of the sport, while keeping kids SAFER in the water!
Big thanks to everyone, our parents and guardians of our swimmers, and our friends and especially our employees who volunteered their time (who we treated to a delicious crawfish broil after the work was done!) to make this the BEST Howey Invitational EVER!
