Lifesaving skills and more at Howey's Water Safety Festival

Howey's first Water Safety Festival on May 18 was a huge success! In honor of National Learn to Swim Day and Water Safety Awareness Month, Houston Swim Club Swim School hosted our first festival. Vendors and water safety experts from around the community gathered to promote the message of year-round water safety and drowning prevention.

From the very start it was an exciting, fun-filled day. Nearly 30 vendors lined up under Pearland Town Center's pavilion, offering an array of activities and resources, selling goodies, crafts, and more. There were fun games, prizes, raffles, food trucks, and vibrant face painting (the face painter was incredible!).

The highlight of the event was undoubtedly our star of the show, Stop Drowning Now, for which the festival was benefiting. They gave entertaining, interactive presentations to the crowd, providing age-appropriate information for kids to stay safe in the water, using their colorful characters and Safer 3 curriculum - Safer Kids, Safer Response, and Safer Water.

There were also presentations given by the US Coast Guard (on boat and lifejacket safety), and from American Heart Association CPR instructors. The CPR skits were very informative...and entertaining for the crowd!

Families also enjoyed music and dance-offs with Howey the Dolphin. The raffle, featuring generous donations from local businesses like Houston Swim Club, Chick-Fil-A, Al Garza Premiere Martial Arts, and Tri-Swim Kids, finished off the day, with attendees eagerly vying for the chance to win fabulous gift baskets while supporting a worthy cause.

Speaking of causes, it's important to highlight that 100% of the proceeds from the festival, including raffle ticket sales, were donated directly to Stop Drowning Now. This remarkable nonprofit shares our passion for saving lives through their drowning prevention initiatives across the US, making our contribution all the more meaningful.

Thank you so much to everyone who attended, supported, and contributed to Howey's First Annual Water Safety Festival. Your enthusiasm and generosity have made this inaugural event an overwhelming success. As we look ahead, let us continue to prioritize water safety, not just during events like these, but every day, because together, we can make a difference and save lives.

For those who couldn't join us or want to relive the memories, check out our social media channels where we have been posting daily water safety tips throughout Water Safety Month. And remember, whether you're a seasoned swimmer or just dipping your toes in the water, safety always comes first!

Until next time, stay safe, stay informed, and keep swimming! We'll see you again at next year's Water Safety Festival!
