Mr Jeremiah at our Sharpstown location has been teaching swim lessons for 14 years. During Special Needs Awareness month, he wanted to introduce us to one of his amazing students!
"Yonathan is 3 yrs old and began swimming lessons with us at the beginning of March. This was his first time in the swimming pool. We took the first few lessons really slow so he could become comfortable in the water and develop trust with me,since both were very new to his life.
"In the past few weeks, Yoni has made great progress! He now willingly puts his face in the water, blows bubbles, and is beginning to roll over and float on his back to take a breath. He loves to sing and, yesterday, he floated for the first time all by himself! It's so awesome to see him improving so fast. What makes Yoni’s story even more special is that he's made all of this progress despite his Autism. I’m really proud of the little guy!"

Young persons on the autism spectrum are 160 times more likely to drown than their peers, and are especially attracted to pool water. This makes swimming classes a top priority. Swimming also helps special needs children in their daily lives. The experience for them is soothing, and the contact with the water helps regulate their bodies. It's a unique feeling they can't experience in any other activity.
Houston Swim Club is accepting donations that will be used for scholarships for children with special needs. These scholarships support financially disadvantaged families who otherwise could not afford swim lessons for their amazing children. We are committed to every child learning life-saving swimming skills, and we need your help!
