Houston Swim Club swimmer Sofia became a hero when she rescued a 2 year old drowning in a backyard pool. A toddler fell into a home swimming pool during a party, and it was Sofia who discovered him and jumped into the water to save him. Using the skills she had learned in swim class, she was able to pull him up from the bottom and bring him to the side. By that time, the adults were able to remove him from the water and perform CPR until the paramedics arrived.
Sofia is very proud that she was able to save a life that day. "It felt awesome, because I could finally put my swimming lessons to use for once...It makes me happy that I saved someone's life," said Sofia.
We're also so proud of Sofia here at HSC. We do what we do because we're passionate about saving lives, but to be able to add another layer to that by helping others learn to be confident and comfortable enough in the water to save someone else is incredible!
