We made a decision when Kaleb was about 8 months old, that we wanted him to learn survival skills around the pool, to respect the water and eventually learn to swim. We started with Mommy and Me classes, graduating to the big pool and soon enough he'll be taking his float test.
Some see it as a luxury and not a necessity. Some think we started way too young. Know what I think? You can't put a price on your child's life. We cut other things out of our budget to accommodate for these classes. I've changed my schedule around, done makeup classes and had Daddy in my place when I couldn't come. To me, it's totally worth it.
On Saturday, Kaleb fell in the pool. The deep end, no less. I was only about 10 feet away, but everything went black for me. I ran to him, Josh did too, and before we even got to him, he'd made it to the side of the pool and was already halfway out.
He was a little scared. I was petrified. We were all relieved. He's definitely not afraid of the water, but he now knows what to do if and when he falls in.
I can't say enough about the Houston Swim Club and the awesome instructors we've had over the last 2 1/2 years. To Lexi, Brittany,Casey, Anthony: THANK YOU for what you do! We'll forever be grateful.
