Drowning Prevention
Drowning is the leading cause of unintentional injury-related death for children ages 1-4 and the second leading cause for ages 5-14 in the United States.
Each year, there are an estimated 236,000 drowning deaths globally, making it a significant public health concern worldwide. 4,000 of those are in the US. That’s 646 people every single day.
Accidents can happen anywhere, and to swimmers of any skill level. At the public pool, in the backyard, or in the open water.
Formal swim lessons can reduce the risk of drowning by 88%! The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends swim lessons begin at least as early as age 1. At HSC, we begin lessons starting at 4 months.
